How Long is the Processing Time for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services?

Processing times are exceedingly long at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) *. On June 17, 2019, the USCIS announced a new strategy aimed at reducing the processing times for applications for naturalization and adjustment of status. This new strategy will attempt to equalize the processing times for citizenship and adjustment applicants who live in a jurisdiction that has been burdened by higher than normal demand since 2015.

How Are They Planning to Make the Process Faster?

  • USCIS may schedule applicants to appear for an interview at a field office outside of their regular field office.
  • Applicants may receive an interview appointment notice or other types of notices (such as a Request for Evidence) from a field office outside of their normal jurisdiction.
  • These changes will not affect where applicants attend their biometrics appointments, which will still be at the nearest application support center.
  • Applicants should follow the instructions on any notices they receive from USCIS.
