Red Mountain High School is a 4-year public high school in the eastern part of Mesa, Arizona. It was opened in 1988 with Robert Free as its founding principal and has been awarded multiple times over the years for academic excellence under his leadership. RMHS also had the honor of being recognized as a Blue Ribbon School by both 1994 and 1995 before becoming nationally ranked again for over 10 straight years.

 The enrollment at Red Mountain reached 3,300 students by 2018-19 making it one of the largest schools within the Mesa Unified School District.

Red Mountain High School stands united in their lion pride through a strong sense of community where they are known not only around Mesa but also across Arizona with this fiery slogan: “On this mountain we stand as one, Roar lions roar”.

Ranked 42nd out of all high schools in Arizona, Red Mountain High School students have the opportunity to participate in AP coursework and exams. Located within Mesa Unified District (MUSD), this school has a 44% participation rate for AP courses as well as an economically disadvantaged student population at 29%. 33% of students are members of minorities across 8 total Mesa Unified District schools.

Known for its high-quality education and student success. With a 22 to 1 teacher ratio, students receive more personal attention than they would in larger schools. The school has 74% of students proficient or better at math and 62% with reading skills demonstrating their quality instruction across the board.

The school rating algorithm is based on four ratings: the Student Progress Rating or Academic Progress Rating, College Readiness Rating, Equity in Learning Potential, and Test Score Ratings. Each of these measures shows a different aspect of success at high schools across Arizona.
