The City of Phoenix has eight different golf courses that are open to the public. These courses, including Palo Verde in north central valley area near Scottsdale and Tempe, is one you should consider playing if your favorite sport involves striking a ball with a spike-like club or long metal shaft into a hole on course!

Palo Verde Golf Course is a beautiful public course in the heart of Phoenix, Arizona that opened its doors to guests back in 1962. It provides an escape from everyday life while still being close enough for locals who want some time outdoors and on their greens. Lori Murray has been the General Manager since its inception.

The Birth of Palo Verde

The game of golf was in the blood for Jim Jemsek, who came to Phoenix from Chicago with a passion already burning hot. His family owned Cog Hill Golf &Country Club just outside their home base and there is no doubt this would have an effect on young James’ love affair with 18 holes – especially if he had been part owner at such an age.

  • Historic, beautiful course
  • Longest holes in the Valley of the Sun
  • Close to other activities like biking or hiking
  • Golfing is affordable compared to green fees in other golf destinations

Jim found himself frustrated with the long lines at his local pro shop, so he began looking for a property to buy. He finally stumbled upon an abandoned farm on 15th Avenue and Maryland that had previously been owned by Rae family members who donated it to golf course developers after building 9 holes around their old home! The first time visitor can’t help but be impressed as soon as they step onto this beautifully manicured green space filled with beautiful flowers throughout – perfect for playing 18 holes before lunchtime ends (or even just one).

  • Relaxing and enjoyable event especially for beginners
  • Tranquil environment, a great way to find a peaceful time in today’s busy world
  • Lovely landscaping with flowers throughout the course
  • Golfers of all skill levels are welcome

Of the many golf courses in Phoenix, Palo Verde is a favorite among locals and visitors alike. Jim Jemsek designed this beautiful facility with elevated greens that can be tough for even experienced players due to its short length (only 1700 yards). There are 3 par 4’s and 6 pars length)water comes into play on each hole 1st three holes; so come take your shot at one of Arizona’s best!

The City of Phoenix is now operating its municipal golf courses under the Parks & Recreation Department. This means that you can enjoy reasonable green fees (see below) with your family and friends, as well! Municipal courses are great places to introduce youngsters into this fun sport or just get some good exercise yourself at very affordable rates.

The golf course is open year round from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset. They also have a driving range where you can practice your swing and work on getting better with time!

The Course
